Zen Mechanics is the project of Wouter Thomassen, living near Amsterdam, Holland. He comes from a very musical family and since his early childhood he has always been fascinated by electronic (and psychedelic) music.
Being exposed to music like Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Frank Zappa, New Order and others, Wouter got heavily influenced by those names in his Dj-ing and music production in his later years to come. He used to be heavily into Heavy Metal before, he even played in some bands (bass & drums), but finally got majorly infected in '93, by the psy-trance virus. Wouter has always been an active member of the local psy-trance scene in many different ways.
He was organizing forest and beach parties halfway the 90's under the name "Cosmic Circus" together with friends, where anything between Detroit Techno and Trance was being played.
Later on, after visiting some parties in the Amsterdam squat scene and mainly in the legendary "E.L.F. Squat", Wouter knew there was no way back... Psy-trance became his life ! First starting off as a Dj, later as a promoter and after he finally he made the natural progress from Dj to producer in 2001, after he managed to assemble all the gear he needed in his own studio. Soon he started to deliver tunes to many respected labels such as: Iboga, Sphere, Ajuca Prod, Mind Funk, Proton, Beats & Pieces, Dance 'n Dust and Aleph Zero with many more to come.
His style is a wide range that fuses groovy and powerfull hi-tech trance with more soulfull and warm progressive elements. His eclectic sound tickled the interest of many diverse labels around the world, such as: Iboga, Sphere, Ajuca Prod., Mind Funk, Proton, Dance'n Dust, Beats 'n Pieces, Odd, Neurobiotic and Aleph Zero. Last label shows that Zen Mechanics is about more than just 4/4 kicks and that this talent has a lot more up his sleeve than just making trance.
Next to that Wouter is currently working on is debut album, which should be released finally in summer 2006 on Neurobiotic Records from Italy. Stay tuned for a lot more to come from this fresh Dutch talent !
